ABOUT THIS NEWSLETTER
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Each of us share things in common... that's the
mean-ing of the Bible word for "fellowship". This
e-zine (a wonderful "new" word for an email magazine)
is devoted to our common love of God's positive Word.
It will come your way, probably twice a month, to give
you a lift as well as motivate you.
In each issue we will let you know when new articles
appear at our web site (e.g. Thanksgiving articles
now on display for our US friends -- see Suggested
Reading on our main page)! And we hope you
like the new "butterfly" look!. We will not forget
those who only have email access to the Internet and
will have an article by email for you, and we
will include a teaching in each newsletter (see A
Positive Word for Today below). We will also point out
other changes.

SONGS I REMEMBER
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I was brought up in a musical family and have never
lost my love of music. Music is a powerful medium, and
we often remember phrases set to music long after we
forget some powerful teaching... that's why TV has so
many jingles! While I have learnt that it is unwise to
take my theology from the lyrics, there are many songs
that inspire me. Here's one I sang with gusto as a
young adult...
THE OLD ACCOUNT WAS SETTLED
There was a time on earth When in the book of heaven,
An old account was standing For sins yet unforgiven,
My name was at the top And many things below,
I went unto the Keeper, And settled long ago!
Long ago, (Down on my knees),
Long ago, (I settled it all),
Yes, the old account was settled long ago;
And the record's clear today For He washed my
sins away,
When the old account was settled long ago.
The old account was large And Growing every day,
For I was always sinning And never tried to pay.
But when I looked ahead, And saw such pain and woe,
I said that I would settle, I settled long ago.
When at the judgement bar I stand before the King,
And He the book will open, He cannot find a thing,
Then will my heart be glad While tears of joy will
flow,
Because I had it settled, and settled long ago.
(F.M. Graham).

A POSITIVE WORD FOR TODAY
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
One of the projects I have been trying to finalize
for a number of years has been to produce a daily book
of devotions. I'm so thrilled that my good friend
Hildy Matthews has made a start on adapting some of my
writings to this format, and here is one of the daily
readings...
NOTHING ELSE MATTERS
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new
creation; the old has gone, the new has come!"
(II Corinthians 5:17)
What does this scripture verse mean to me? What does
it mean to me to be a New Creation? My understanding
of the truth of the New Creation will determine my
success in every aspect of my life. The New Creation
allows me to stand in God's presence with a sense of
worth, for the Christ in me makes me worthy. I want to
gain an appreciation of what God has made me in
Christ. I want to have self-esteem and boldness,
enabling me to meet every situation I will ever run
across - and come out a winner every time!
"Circumcision is nothing; uncircumcision is nothing;
the only thing that counts is new creation!"
(Galatians 6:15 NEB). Once I am "in Christ," the
scripture states there is "a new creation." There is
no suggestion that this is a promise to be fulfilled
in heaven or that the result described will become a
reality when certain conditions are fulfilled, but it
does state that the moment I am "in Christ," a New
Creation is a reality.
In Galatians 6:15 the New Creation is shown in its
relation to religious ceremony. The Jewish rite of
circumcision is given as an example of all religious
practices based on works. All works-based religious
actions are worthless in God's sight, whether it is
putting flowers on the altar or serving fellow man or
fasting for Lent. Giving up a works-based religion is
not the full answer either, for that, too, is
worthless in God's sight.
What does the New Creation matter to me? These
studies in the New Creation will give me the answer to
that question. These studies will be the catalyst for
a new way of life for me. When the truth of the New
Creation is understood and applied, it can change a
believer and a ministry into a powerful force for God.
(From "You Are A New Creation", Chapter 1.)
Affirmation: Nothing else matters but a New Creation!

HUMOR
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The only thing Adam would recognize if he came back
to earth would the jokes! Each issue we will include
one of the best we have seen since our last issue.
So here goes...
HEAVEN'S ENTRANCE EXAM
A man dies and goes to heaven. Of course, St. Peter
meets him at the pearly gates. St. Peter says, "Here's
how it works. You need 100 points to make it into
heaven. You tell me all the good things you've done,
and I give you a certain number of points for each
item, depending on how good it was. When you reach 100
points, you get in."
"Okay," the man says, "I was married to the same
woman for 50 years and never cheated on her, even in
my heart."
"That's wonderful," says St. Peter, "that's worth
three points!"
"Three points?" he says. "Well, I attended church all
my life and supported its ministry with my tithe and
service."
"Terrific!" says St. Peter. "That's certainly worth a
point."
"One point? I started a soup kitchen in my city and
worked in a shelter for homeless veterans."
"Fantastic, that's good for two more points," he says.
"Two points!" the man cries. "At this rate the only
way I get into heaven is by the grace of God."
"Come on in!"
