3. SONGS I REMEMBER
Fanny Crosby (1820-1915), though blind, wrote over 8,000 gospel songs!
She also lived to the good age of 95 years! You probably know many of
her songs, like "Redeemed, how I love to proclaim it" and "Jesus, keep
me near the cross", but the following song is possibly her best known.
It appears in almost all hymnbooks and is set to music by Phoebe
Knapp.
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His spirit, washed in His blood.
Chorus: This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long.
Perfect submission, perfect delight!
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.
Perfect submission--all is at rest,
I in my Savior am happy and blest;
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

4. A POSITIVE WORD FOR TODAY (Peter Wade)
MY NEW CLOSENESS WITH GOD
"Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that
by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature" (II Peter 1:4).
Since the New Creation is complete in Him, all of God's wisdom is
within me, all of God's guidance is within me, all of God's grace is
within me. II Peter 1:4 teaches that New Creation people have become
"partakers of the divine nature," and that nature is spirit, power,
love -- yes, everything that God is.
What effect then, does the truth of God's omnipresence have upon
the prayer life of the New Creation? It certainly forces us to
revitalize the privilege of prayer and to reconsider just where God is
when we pray. We can now see that prayer is not a matter of praying to
a God who is up in heaven or somewhere just out of our reach. As long
as I act as if God is far away, then I am not in an attitude of mind
to acknowledge His blessings here at hand.
Prayer to a far-away God is going to be a stressful, straining
works-based situation. Perhaps now we can also see that prayer is not
dependent on the volume at which I pray. I have been in churches where
people would literally shout at God. However, I know that God is right
here with me and I need only talk quietly and naturally to Him. I can
talk to Him as a son talks with his father. He is the God who is at
hand. Wherever I am, God is, and so there is no distance in prayer.
It would also be true to say that since the New Creation is
complete in Him and blessed with all spiritual blessing, then there is
no need for the supermarket shopping list kind of prayers. In fact,
there is nothing left on the shopping list! Let us, then, rethink
prayer in the light of the closeness of God, His love and tender care
for us, His complete provision for us, and what we are in Him.(From
"You Are A New Creation", Chapter 2, adapted by Hildy Matthews.)
AFFIRMATION: I know that I am complete in Him, that my needs are taken
care of and that I need only to listen, praise and be thankful.

5. SEARCHLIGHTS FROM THE WORD
G. Campbell Morgan was a well-known preacher and writer of over 60
books from the first half of the 20th century. In this spot each issue
we reproduce a comment from one verse in every chapter of the Bible.
We continue with Paul's letter to the Philippians.
"The peace of God, which passeth all understanding" (Philippians 4:7).
There are three great phrases in which peace and God are brought
together. They are "Peace from God," "Peace with God," and "Peace of
God." They are all the result of a truth enshrined in another, "the
God of peace." The first Paul constantly employed in the introduction
to his letters. It reminds us that our peace comes to us a gift from
God. The second describes the relationship into which we are brought
with God, through Christ Jesus. The third refers to the peace which is
the experience of God Himself, because of what He is in Himself, the
God of peace. At once it admits us to a realm which this particular
passage indicates.
The peace of God is beyond "all mind"; that is, beyond our power of
thinking. That means two things: first, that the peace of God is so
wonderful that we are not able fully to apprehend it; but second, it
means that the peace of God, being the result of the wisdom and might
of God, is far more wonderful than any cleverness of our own. That is
the main value of the whole declaration of which this phrase is a
part. It is that peace which will guard, as with a garrison of
defence, our hearts and thoughts in Christ Jesus. If we by our own
cleverness attempt to guard our hearts and thoughts, we shall fail.
The forces opposed are too strong for us. They will break through upon
us. They can never do so, as we are guarded in "the peace of God."

6. BIBLE STUDY OUTLINES
These Bible Study outlines come from the excellent book by F.E. Marsh,
"1,000 Bible Study Outlines".
BLUNDERS
The blunders of God's saints, as recorded in His Word, are meant to be
beacons to tell us to keep off the rocks upon which they went.
1. David's laziness, and his consequent fall -- II Sam. xi. 1-4.
2. Solomon's lustfulness, and the consequent backsliding -- I Kings
xi. 1-6.
3. Hezeklah's pride, and its resultant captivity -- Isa. xxxix. 1-8.
4. Miriam's jealousy, and the leprosy which came to her as punishment
-- Num. xii. 1-10.
5. Lot's selfishness, and his humiliating rebuke from the Sodomites --
Gen. xiii. 11; xix. 9.
6. Peter's self-confidence, and his consequent downward course -- Luke
xxii. 33.
7. The self-exultation of the Church at Corinth, and the resultant
chastisement -- I Cor. xi. 30,
... are all recorded that we may avoid their mistakes and escape their
punishments.
BLESSINGS OF THE UPRIGHT
One said of a devoted Christian man in his business, "He commands my
custom, for all his goods are Christian;" and of another, "He sells a
Christian shovel." When we are "upright in heart and life and
business, we need no recommendation." The upright man, and not the
leaner, is ever the blessed one. If the Book of Proverbs is carefully
studied, it will be found there are many blessings which come to the
upright.
1. The upright "dwell in the land" of promised blessing -- ii. 21.
2. The upright have Jehovah as their strength -- x. 29.
3. The integrity and righteousness of the upright bring guidance and
deliverance -- xi. 3, 6, 11.
4. The upright are a joy to the Lord, and He delights to answer their
prayer -- xi. 20; xv. 8.
5. The upright find that the Lord keeps them, causes them to flourish,
and obtain definite direction -- xiii. 6; xiv. 11; xxi. 29.
6. They find "good things in possession" (xxviii. 10). "No good will
Jehovah withhold from them who walk uprightly" (Psa. 84. 11).
BLESSED ONES
The word "blessed" in the following passages means "happy." The soul
of happiness may be summarised as contentment, peace, and joy. The
blessed or happy ones are those:
1. "Whose robes are washed in the Blood of the Lamb" -- Rev. xxii. 14,
R.V.).
2. Whose iniquities are forgiven through God's grace -- Rom. iv. 7, 8.
3. Who obey Christ's Word to minister to others -- John xiii. 17.
4. Who endure temptation by getting the victory -- James i. 12.
5. Who give of their substance rather than receive -- Acts xx. 35.
6. Who have not seen Christ, and yet believe in Him -- John xx. 29.
7. Who fulfil the conditions embodied in the twelve Blesseds of Christ
found in Matthew's Gospel -- Matt. v. 3-11; xi. 6; xiii. 16; xxiv. 46.
BLESSINGS WHICH COME TO THE MEEK
1. Satisfaction. "The meek shall eat and be satisfied" (Psa. xxii.26).
2. Discretion. "The meek will He guide in judgment" (Psa. xxv. 9).
3. Instruction. "The meek will He teach His way" (Psa. xxv. 9).
4. Salvation. "Save all the meek of the earth" (Psa. lxxvi. 9).
5. Exaltation. "The Lord lifteth up the meek" (Psa. cxlvii. 6).
6. Beautification. "He will beautify the meek" (Psa. cxlix. 4).
7. Valuation. "A meek and quiet Spirit" (I Peter iii. 4).
