ENJOY YOUR LIFE by Dan Stone
The religion I preached for twelve or thirteen years told people
what they ought to become. Everybody else told me I "gotta
become," so that's what I taught others.
Do you know what that kind of religion is like? It's like a
bunch of us who all bought new shoes which were too tight for us.
We paid so much for them, we thought we had to smile. But all the
time we were smiling, our feet were killing us.
You see, I'm tired of people telling me what I "ought" to do.
I want to be with people who already know who they are, so that
we can just rejoice in God and know that we are complete in
Christ -- that we are already holy, already unreprovable, already
blameless. When we know this, we can have fellowship in the "I
Am" and drop the "I gotta become."

PRACTICAL UNION WITH CHRIST
(Continuing the series by A.T. Pierson, published in 1896.)
In one word, Paul turns our thought to the practical aspect of
this union with Christ. What does all this mean, and how is this
truth to be transmuted into life? The answer begins now to be
given, and is found in one word, "Reckon" -- the equivalent of
another word, "Count", which occurs first in Genesis 15:6. "Abram
believed in the Lord and it was counted unto him for
righteousness." Just what he did which was thus counted as
righteousness is plain from the exact meaning of the original
word -- Abram "amened" God. When God said a thing, though it was
humanly impossible, Abram said "Amen, it shall be so, even as God
hath said."

                     MIRACLES OF SUPPLY

"And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh"
(Genesis 22:14).

Records of God's provision for His people are spread throughout
the Bible. In the book of Genesis God revealed one of His great
names, "Jehovah-jireh," meaning "The Lord will provide." And who
has not repeated the beautiful words of Psalm 23:1, "The Lord is
my shepherd, I shall not want" (KJV) or as some modern
translations render it, "I shall not lack." And in the Church
Epistles we have this tremendous affirmation, "And my God shall
supply all your need according to His riches in glory by [in]
Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:19).
The word "supply" is interesting in Philippians 4:19, for at
first glance it appears that my needs are to be "supplied" from
an outside source. The Greek word from which this is translated,
"pleroo", is translated only once out of 90 occurrences as
"supply." On 84 occasions "pleroo" has been translated with the
thought of "to fill," "to fulfil," "to be full," "complete," and
so forth.
The same word is used in Colossians 2:10, where we have the
marvelous revelation that "you are complete [filled] in Him," and
in Ephesians 3:19 where it is stated that we "may be filled with
all the fullness of God."
The "supply" of all my need comes to me from the "fullness"
that I have in Him. It is endogenous -- it originates and grows
from within. (From "You Are A New Creation", Chapter 5, by Peter
Wade, adapted by Hildy Matthews.)
AFFIRMATION: Today I proclaim "The Lord will provide", and I
look for signs of God at work supplying all my needs.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

G. Campbell Morgan was a well-known preacher and writer of over
60 books from the first half of the 20th century. In this spot
each issue we reproduce a comment from one verse in every chapter
of the Bible. We continue with Paul's first letter to Timothy.

"Let no man despise thy youth" (I Timothy 4:12).

These were the words of Paul, who in a yet earlier letter
(Philemon) had described himself as "Paul the aged," to Timothy,
a young man; and they constituted his counsel to him. This is
self-evident, and yet it may be interpreted as a warning to
others not to despise the youth of this servant of Christ. If
that were its meaning, then Paul would have intended to say to
Timothy that he must maintain the dignity of his office. Now
ultimately that also is involved; but the first meaning of the
injunction was that Timothy should so deport himself as to make
it impossible for others to despise him. We might render it thus:
"See to it that, thy youth notwithstanding, thou art not
despicable!"
It may be that there is a tendency among older people to hold
youth in contempt, but it is often as much the fault of youth as
of age. When a young man, placed in the position of responsible
oversight, so lives as to be "an ensample... in word, in manner
of life, in love, in faith, in purity," he is not despised. This
injunction to Timothy is of perpetual application, and not alone
to the young. A man enamoured of the dignity of his office, and
seeking to impress other people with that dignity, is always
despicable and is invariably despised. A man concerned about his
character, and seeking to realize in his life the ideals of his
Lord, gives a weight and dignity to his office which is
recognized and yielded to without any reference to his age.
