               FEAR NOT!

Four times in the Gospel record of the great event of Christmas the message is sent from God to man -- "Fear Not". It is the continuing message of God right throughout the Bible, from the Garden of Eden to the Book of Revelation. Eighty times the message comes clear and strong -- "Fear Not". From angels, prophets, apostles, martyrs and Christ Himself comes the command, appeal and exhortation to "Fear Not". Yes, the Bible has as much to say upon the subject of fear and worry as it does on other great truths.
As we contemplate the great story of Christmas within the framework of these two powerful words, the message of God becomes personal. Personal and powerful, because God says to you today "Fear Not". Whatever your situation, here are the reasons why you need not fear!

             Fear Not... God Answers Prayer
The first scene that comes before our eyes is the temple at Jerusalem. It is the hour of prayer and the priests are burning incense as part of the worship of God. From all outward appearances it is no different from any other day in the temple (Luke 1:8-10).
A certain priest named Zacharias was engaged in this duty in the Holy Place, while outside a multitude of people were praying. Suddenly there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord, who stood on the right side of the altar of incense. Immediately fear came upon him because of this sudden turn of events. Have you ever been frightened when something new and unexpected comes before you? Fear is always active in these circumstances of life.
However, the moment the angel saw what effect his presence had made on Zacharias, his first words were "Fear Not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard." We are told that both he and his wife Elisabeth were getting on in years, and so far they had no children. This fact had been a regular matter for prayer, for God is a specialist in miracles. And now the angel brings the comforting message that their prayers have been heard, and God was about to answer!
God has not promised that He will send an angel to let you know that your prayers have been heard. Such a thing is unnecessary for the Christian of today, for the Word of God gives us the assurance that our prayers are heard (I John 5:14). And thousands are proving daily that God still does answer prayer! Have you tried the avenue of prayer as a help in life's many battles? "Fear Not"... God does answer prayer!

INSIGHTS FROM MY READING

               THE HEART OF PAUL'S RELIGION

The heart of Paul's religion is union with Christ. This, more than any other conception -- more than justification, more than sanctification, more even than reconciliation -- is the key which unlocks the secrets of his soul. Within the Holy of Holies which stood revealed when the veil was rent in twain from the top to the bottom on the day of Damascus, Paul beheld Christ summoning and welcoming him in infinite love into vital unity with Himself.
If one seeks for the most characteristic sentences the apostle ever wrote, they will be found, not where he is refuting the legalists, or vindicating his apostleship, or meditating on eschatological hopes, or giving practical ethical guidance to the Church, but where his intense intimacy with Christ comes to expression. Everything that religion meant for Paul is focused for us in such great words as these : "I live, yet not I, but Christ liveth in me" (Galatians 2:20), "There is, therefore, now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus." (Romans 8:1), "He that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit." (I Corinthians 6:17).
From "A Man in Christ" by James Stewart.

INSIGHTS FROM EVERY BOOK OF THE BIBLE
-----------------------------------------------------------------

G. Campbell Morgan was a well-known preacher and writer of over
60 books from the first half of the 20th century. In this spot
each issue we reproduce a comment from one verse in every chapter
of the Bible. We continue with Paul's second letter to Timothy.

"Out of them all the Lord delivered me" (II Timothy 3:11)

The reference of the Apostle was to "things which befell" him, to "persecutions" he "endured"; and they were specific references, for he named the places -- Antioch, Iconium, Lystra. What were his experiences then in these places? The story is told in the thirteenth and fourteenth chapters of the Book of the Acts. The men of Antioch "cast them out of their borders." From Iconium they "fled," knowing that there was an intention to "stone" them. At Lystra Paul was "stoned," and his enemies "dragged him out of the city supposing that he was dead." Such were the things that befell him; such the persecutions he endured.
Now, looking back, Paul referred to them only to place on record his sense of the deliverances of the Lord. This is always the experience of the servants of the Master as they look back over the pathway. They do not forget the disappointment of being cast out, the bitterness of having to fly, the pain and exhaustion of the stoning; but they are more impressed with the fact of the governance of the Lord, and of how He has always delivered His own. His ways of deliverance are very varied. Sometimes He saves His servants from stoning by causing their enemies to cast them out. Sometimes He saves them from stoning by making known to them the intentions of their foes, and so enabling them to escape. Sometimes He does not deliver them from stoning, but delivers them beyond the stoning, and sends them on their way enriched with new visions, and a new sense of the sufficiency of His grace. Whether in this way, or in that, He never fails to deliver.
