I have often enjoyed writing poems,
And doing the best that I could,
Preferring to write with rhyming words,
Which I thought sounded quite good.

Sometimes I’d sit up late at night,
Verses rushing into my head,
While blissfully writing so fast,
I would almost forget about bed!

How I loved to write these poems,
About life and daily living,
To write of God and His great love,
And of all the blessings He’s giving.

But then I read a “how to” book,
Which really set me back,
It made me see how little I knew,
And just how much I did lack.

My meter wasn’t good enough,
Correct syllables must be used
To make verse smooth and flowing free,
Oh, I see the language I have abused.

Many of my poems I have sent away,
To dear friends in other lands.
I certainly won’t write any more,
Other things I will do with my hands!

Then I began to receive letters,
Saying my poems had brightened their day,
They had passed them onto others,
And asked for more to come their way.

So now I have started writing again,
Won’t worry about or get stressed
If my poems are not up to standard,
So long as the readers are blessed.
