During the recent “In Christ” seminars in the US, I shocked some people when I said I was not only an Ephesians 4 teacher but also a Hebrews 5:12 teacher. That sent them to their Bibles! “By this time you ought to be teachers yourselves, yet here I find you need someone to sit down with you and go over the basics on God again, starting from square one” (Hebrews 5:12 Message Bible).
As it related to “in Christ” teaching, I was referring to the fact that if you get the wrong or incomplete truth about salvation, you will be wrong everywhere else in the Christian faith. The truth that you are “in Christ” and that “Christ is in you” is at the very foundation of the work of God on your behalf.
Yet what do we see today? Church people are running off to conferences to get more of God, or to get an anointing, or for a host of other reasons or imagined needs. There is little stability in their Christian lives, mainly because they haven’t grasped the basic truth or realized that their God is really greater than Satan.
No wonder Williams translates this verse “you actually need someone to teach you over and over again”! And that’s the purpose of this blog and our other sites. You can never learn enough of the power of your position “in Christ” and the power of His presence “in you”. When you get a reasonable grasp of it, then the true rest of the believer that Jesus promised in Matthew 11:28 becomes effective in your life.
