“Your words were found, and I ate them; and your word was to me the joy and gladness of my heart” (Jeremiah 15:16). “When your words showed up, I ate them — swallowed them whole. What a feast!” (Message Bible). “Your words are what sustain me. They bring me great joy and are my heart’s delight” (NLT).

“How sweet are Your Words to my taste! More than honey to my mouth!” (Psalm 119:103). “Your words are so choice, so tasty; I prefer them to the best home cooking” (Message Bible).

Can you really say that’s how you feel about the Bible? Does the thought of feeding on God’s Word get your spiritual saliva flowing? Does it seem like something is missing when you have a day when you did not read your Bible? I ask these questions not to condemn you but to point out the example set before us.

“The root of all the evils which abound in the spiritual sphere at the present day lies in the fact that the Word and the words of God are not fed upon, digested, and assimilated, as they ought to be. If we ask the question, Why is this the case? the answer is, The Bible is not enjoyed because the Bible is not understood” (E.W. Bullinger, How to Enjoy the Bible, 1907).

The problem remains today. Many believers do not even take a Bible to church with them to check what the preacher says! It was so in the denomination in which I was raised. Later when I became a pastor in another denomination, people always had a Bible and even stood for the reading of the Bible in the service! That was a sign of respect, of anticipation because God was about to speak.

So if the problem is that the Bible is not understood, then we have developed this site to help you understand the Word. Paul said of Timothy that “from a child you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus” (II Timothy 3:15). You cannot have one cold snack a week and live the more abundant life. Feed your faith with the Word and your doubts will starve to death! — Peter Wade
